Life with a Plica May 17, 2008

Saturday is my usual day for my long ride of the week. My training plan had me doing a 70 mile ride with a 3 mile run immediately after. I usually look forward to this type of training day…especially at this time of year in Durango. It was a gorgeous day today. Blue sky with white fluffy clouds, temps near 80, with little win….perfect! Perfect if you don’t have a plica hanging along for the ride. I made plans to meet Jesse at Bread at 10:30. I suited up with my Durango Wheel Club kit and hopped onto my Look road bike for the ride. I told Jesse that I’d ride as far as my knee allowed. I made it about 25 yards…not even out of the parking lot of my condo complex. Maybe 10 pedal strokes and my knee began screaming. Unclip the right leg and pedal back to the garage.
Words can’t express how frustrating this is right now. I should be pounding out the miles in the mountain passes today, but instead, I’m sitting at home being domestic. I do know that once this thing is fixed, I’ll be a raging ball of pent up energy looking for an outlet!
