In the moment… August 25, 2008
Here’s a good pic of Theo “in the moment”… I’ll explain where I’m going with this below.
Theo’s life is about extremes: sheer ecstasy and sheer boredom. He handles the latter by sleeping (the dog literally sleeps 19 hours per day) and handles the former with total immersion in the moment.
Unlike my occasional bad habit of worrying about what happens (work, bills, unexpected life weirdness) when the fun (run, hike, bike, beer) is over, Theo is a master of being in the moment. Having been through the routine countless times, you’d think his fun would be tempered by knowing that the sheer boredom lies just around the corner. Maybe it’s a seemingly endless car ride that awaits, or six hours of waiting for me to stop working while just staring at his ball and hoping it will throw itself. Whatever it is, he’s too smart (not smart enough?) to let it worry him. It would spoil the moment. He plays with total abandon, without any worry about when it might end.
I’m going to try to adopt that philosophy and attitude from here on out.

We’d all be better off taking a life lesson from Theo, can I have a Theo day?
