Morgie did the 25 yard swim and 1/4 mile run with no help in a time of 3:02…I don’t think I could have done it that fast! And she was an awesome sport with all her friends…we couldn’t have been prouder.

What a girl…

I thought Michelle’s picture was hilarious…I don’t know J…you might have beat him racing, but my money’s on Dean in an actual fight :)

It could have been a really hard weekend this past weekend. I could have stayed home, saved those bold encounters and reminders for a different time. I could have waited till another time to have a steady reminder that being in San Jose was the last time I talked to Ryan on the phone, the very last time I heard his voice and hear him say I love you. The tear filled drive home and then the beginning of my nightmare - but I went anyway. I had to. And I am so thankful to have been surrounded by my teammates and friends - excited about racing and having a great time, quick to make each other laugh.

First Time I got a big hug from a race director (besides Kat!)…these folks were awesome and put on a great little tri.

Photos courtesy of Scott Greene, overall winner and all-around nice guy :)

Retiring to Hawaii

Filed under: Passions — April Bowling @ 8:05 am

So I declare the season a wrap and immediately win my first (non-Nahant) triathlon outright (not just AG). If I state my plan to enter retirement, will I instantly qualify for Kona?

Ok…probably not. But it’s tempting to try it :)

Saturday Shout-Outs June 27, 2009

Filed under: Passions — April Bowling @ 12:29 pm

I’m waiting for pix, but in the meantime I have to give a shout out to:

Sylvie Oldeman who participated in her very first tri today at the Lincoln Kids Tri
Nina Morris who took 2nd place in her AG (5-6) at the Lincoln Kids Tri
Morgan Phippen who shared her raffle prize with her friend :)
Liz Tarr who took 4th in her AG (20-29) at the Wakefield Tri today…and she hasn’t even started working on her speed yet!

The Bloody Truth

OK, we always dance around this in our posts (we being female athletes) but I’m not going to this time, so guys…here’s your chance to bail because the remainder of this post is about menstruation.

No - not the fuzzy euphamisms like “Aunt Flo” or “my monthly friend”…it’s about my period. PERIOD.

Firsts June 26, 2009

Today was the first searing hot run of the summer for me…7 miles of sweat-pouring humidity. The temp wasn’t that bad - just the thickness in the air…it was disgusting. I believe that all oxygen has been shipped to Colorado. Or anywhere but here.

The Athlete’s Pocket Guide to Yoga June 25, 2009

Filed under: Media, Training and Racing, yoga — Sage Rountree @ 9:40 am

While my trip to Ironman Coeur d’Alene* has occupied most of my thoughts in the past week, another project that’s taken a lot of work has reached fruition: The Athlete’s Pocket Guide to Yoga has been released! We arrived home from Idaho late, late Tuesday night (actually, early Wednesday morning) to find my shipment of books.

I still remember how exciting it was to get my shipment of The Athlete’s Guide to Yoga. Working on this new book was like having my second child: I knew what to expect, it was less work to bear, and it brings pleasure equal to the first. It’s more colorful than the first book, a little smaller, and—unlike my second daughter, Vivian, who lives up to her lively name—it lies flat and still.
