Get Some Sleep… February 28, 2009

Man, am I tired. Too tired to even go questioning how we only came up with a 2nd round draft pick for Mike Vrabel and Matt Cassell combined. Too tired to stay up past writing this. ALMOST too tired to run 1o miles with an old friend tomorrow morning….but that I’ll find a way to do.

The ability is within you. It was there all along. You just masked it one day with excuses and then relied on someone else to find it. Little did you know it was always there, waiting for your rediscovery.

So get out there in this rain and 41 degree weather and ride your bike you sissy. You know you want to. :)

Of course my workout today was awesome…. February 24, 2009

Now I’m going over my notes, and remembering some good nuggets from the weekend. I’ll share:

-If your second interval is easier than your first, then you didn’t warm up correctly. Consequently your first interval was largely a physiological waste.

-You diminish your top end interval capacity by up to (10?) percent by going too hard on your non-key workouts and even more if you don’t recover enough between intervals. Don’t recover at the pace you THINK should be easy, but at the pace that IS easy for you on that day, at that moment.

The ABC Model

Just an adendum…when you fear people’s expectations, you start working like hell to lower them. Ever heard yourself respond to a compliment like, “you’re such a fast runner now” with something like, “oh…you’d be surprised. I’m actually really slow.”

Problem is, stating becomes believing, and believing turns the response into fact in your head. You say, “no…I’m really not that good a biker - I suck on climbs” enough, and you will, sure as the sun rises, suck at climbs.

How to cheer yourself up in one evening…

All you need is:

-Excellent, tasty, home cooked Indian food. Accompanied by your friends sides and lavish additions (garlic nan, quinoa salad, green salad, green beans, salmon, multi grain rice, etc!)

-Twelve of your amazing, fast, fun teammates who are getting to know one another more and more off the bike - laughing together, eating together, planning how to take over the world together.

Thanks for coming over last night ladies. It’s going to be an incredible season!

Just a warning…this one is deep. ;)

About 19 months ago, I started down the path of losing my love for the sport of triathlon. I didn’t realize what I was doing at the time, since like most subconscious tendencies, it was more comfortable to ignore. Thanks to spending the preceding 4 months training with Janda for the first time, I had just come off the most amazing performances of my very short tri career…a 2nd at Marlboro, a 4th at Littleton, a 5k PR, a 10k PR, and Mooseman…my first half-iron where I WAY outperformed my training.

Oh to be an olympic athlete… February 20, 2009

OK, I’ve figured out what I need in my life…to be an olympic caliber athlete! So I can live here at the Olympic Training Center. Seriously though, I feel like an imposter/stalker here. There’s Sarah Haskins! Oh, the entire men’s hockey team? Yeah…I’m a great athlete too. My 10k time? Oh, like 28 minutes…OK, 48 minutes. But who’s counting?
