The Oddest Things Happen March 18, 2008
On Sunday the Etna Brewing and DeSalvo Custom Cycles Team got together with friends for a ride in Northern California. We started at Collier Rest Area on I-5 and headed down the Klamath River. Turning up the Shasta River canyon we were treated to a gentle grade and snow covered peaks in the back ground.
Through Yreka and over Forest Mountain for a chilly decent into Fort Jones. The pace picked up as we began to wind our way down the Scott River Road. The river road is gently rolling, narrow and some great views over a sheer cliff into the river. As we came up a short climb, Scott Davidson pulled out of the paceline near the front and yelled something about a mechanical. We all stopped to wait and found he had broken his crank. Many of have seen or heard about this happening, usually involving a story with a crash, either before or after. Thankfully, no crash, but here is something you don’t see every day!
We all made it home in the end. A great day to be out on the bike. Total miles for the day 93.
wow! no crash, yet full failure. Old style Dura Ace, that guy must generate some serious power! c’mon Chet, it’s still ski season!!
I know it’s still ski season, but that doesn’t help me ride faster! Ski one day, ride six as the race season has begun.
