Poor Weather = Great Cyclocross! October 6, 2008

Snow on Mount Shasta, mud in the valleys, it must be cyclocross season. Sunday’s Klamath Falls Cyclocross was my first cross race of the season. I had heard there were some rocky spots and quite a few flat tires during the last race, so I mounted up some big tires and headed out. Last week was dry, but after the rains the past few days, the course had layer of mud the consistency of peanut butter. On my pre-ride of the course I only made it half way before coming to a stop due to mud build up. Those big tires were great in the dry soft stuff, but the mud stuck to them so badly that I had to carry the bike back to the pits! Luckily, Richard Hogan offered to let me use his wheels and I was able to race. Oh that lung burning, mud bog running cross racing. I had forgotten that feeling of nausea after a run-up. Looking forward to it once a week for the next couple months. No matter the weather, get out there and ride!
