I love this picture taken from Joel’s 8-mile Lake Champlain swim. It looks like he’s going to swim right off of the horizon. There is such a zen and peace that comes with long distance open water swimming - it’s fast becoming my favorite of the three sports (not so much in races when you’re getting run over or running over 2200 other folks but at least in training).
Nice job Joelly.
OK, I know he’s gonna kill me, but I HAVE to publicly wish Joel the best of luck with his 8-mile Lake Champlain swim tomorrow morning…talk about an amazing feat! I know he’ll do great. I’ll post his results as soon as I get them. The swim benefits the fight for clean water in the Lake and is sponsored by the Greater Burlington YMCA (as always - the Y doing great things :).
I am lazy. My running partners laugh when I say that, but my husband wouldn’t. I like to get by with the minimum effort, to avoid big work. So when I woke up yesterday, I thought I’d defer doing the 1000-yard swim test I’d planned.
But there I was at the pool later that morning, telling myself, “I’ll just warm up and see how I feel.” My longtime client Julee was in the lane with me. I thought, “Carpe diem, Rountree. Don’t wuss out in front of Jules,” and launched into my set.

Have you ever had so much fun that you didn’t want to stop for anything…and I do mean anything?
