race #3 back in the saddle… my job is to make sure a Wells Fargo woman is on the podium after those long, hilly 70 miles… if not, I failed.  No, not me… I plan on working my arse off in support of my amazing teammates, prefer to be the worker bee! ;-)  Promise to have race details and maybe pics to follow…

Tri, Girl, Tri October 13, 2008

(see the video below… and listen carefully for the guy at the end yelling, “Go Pooh-bear!!”)
Live Your Passion was one of the sponsors for the Tri, Girl, Tri all-womens sprint triathlon this past Saturday in Napa county, CA.  I would share some pictures of our booth, but it was so cold and windy that Joe and I couldn’t set it up (it would’ve lifted off and landed in the lake).  We couldn’t display the shirts either because they kept blowing away.  In fact, we couldn’t even take our coats off for fear of hypothermia… so we ended up just looking like a couple of creepy guys wearing black jackets and handing out stickers (”hey kid, want some candy?”).

Back to Basics October 6, 2008

So, as I’ve declared already, my two big goals for right now are:

a) complete (not compete) the 200 fly and the 400 IM at the BU meet in december (in addition to my backstroke and IM events from last year). If I don’t get DQ’d I can earn big points for the team by virtue of the fact that nobody wants to do those events, so even if I’m last (which I will be) for my age group, I can probably get at least 10 points per event.

Always looking ahead August 28, 2008

This photo was taken by Diane Boursaw for Wheels in Focus. It really captures my season - leading the charge and always looking ahead into the next corner for what may come.

And always study your enemy. Look at their weak spots - figure out the way they move and then ATTACK! (Ok - maybe I’ve been reading a little too much into “Book of Five Rings…”)

The Calm Before the Storm August 19, 2008

This past weekend I was off the bike for two days for the first time in months. It’s my last breather before buckling down and dialing in my speed and agility before nationals. Not only did it allow me to rest my body, but it also allowed me to rest my mind and regroup.

Every sunny day I thank my lucky stars for having the legs to ride my bike, the lungs to get me from point A to point B and the warmth to keep my joints happy. Summer is my favorite time of year - and I try to make the most of each moment because winter is coming…

The Big Swim

Filed under: Passions, Racing, Swimming, Training — April Bowling @ 1:00 pm

OK, I know he’s gonna kill me, but I HAVE to publicly wish Joel the best of luck with his 8-mile Lake Champlain swim tomorrow morning…talk about an amazing feat! I know he’ll do great. I’ll post his results as soon as I get them. The swim benefits the fight for clean water in the Lake and is sponsored by the Greater Burlington YMCA (as always - the Y doing great things :).

(me at RI 70.3 - please note the empty T2 racks around me, thank you)

Pete wanted me to point out that he’s not the ONLY one slow in transition…but at least I’m not sitting comfortably in my spot ;)

The do’s and don’ts August 4, 2008

I learned a valuable lesson this weekend while attempting the Washington State Individual Time Trial. Thankfully this lesson was a new one to me - and one I certainly will NOT repeat.
