Today…I couldn’t make a mile September 13, 2008

Last Sunday I swam, biked, and ran (and let’s be honest here…walked too) 140.6 miles.

Today…I couldn’t make a mile.

Swimming and yoga and walking around in flip flops or bare feet has been ok this week, if a little painful. But as soon as I try to put on sneakers, the outside bottom and side of my left foot screams. It feels like a bone bruise every time I put my foot down. I think I am so flat footed at this point that in bare feet the outside of my foot barely even touches the floor, so that spares me. In athletic shoes that correct my pronation, even a bit, it’s a no go.

I went out the door 3 times this morning for a walk, each time in a different shoe. Each time I made it about 800 yards before I was hobbling so badly I had to one-step it home. Guess it’s another swim today. It’s getting a little frustrating!

Speaking of swimming, I decided to see where I was at for my little 200 meter butterfly event that I committed to at the BU meet in December. So last night after my warmup at the pool I decided to go out nice and easy and see what I could do and how fast. Uhhhhh…it’s a good thing I have till December!

I managed to eek out 150 YARDS (BU is meters) of legal fly in 2:42…yes that’s right…2:42. WOW THAT’S SLOW! Who knew you could keep moving forward and not drown at that speed? But it’s not so much the speed that is so painfully bad…it’s that if Jaws were chasing me I don’t think I could have gone another 10 yards. And I gotta get through another 50!!! Ouch.

But considering I can’t walk, I may have LOTS of time to kill in the pool so I know I can do it. The 400 IM is much less intimidating to me because it’s a lot harder to DQ…even if I’m DFL (which I probably will be) so few people do it I should bring in plenty o’points for the team.

Back to the pool I go…

By the look of your “little” blisters last week, I’d say you probably were forced to run mwith much more impact on the outsides of your feet. To get away from the blistered area. A bit more swimming and low impact for another few days to a week will probably help quite a bit.

Bingo Dude…that’s exactly what happened. And man, they weren’t happy! But they are coming around, if a little slowly. Meanwhile I AM getting some quality swim time in… ;)
