Done with Fun in the Sun November 2, 2008
Two wicked fun days of awesome workouts outside with friends…and I think it’s about time for me to suck it up and start back on the training track for next year. The running has been coming along well with the exception of my little whooping cough this past week, but that’s cleared up and I should be good to go on the path to a 22 minute 5k.
Swimming and biking? Not so much lately. I realized today’s easy 30 miler was the farthest I’ve biked since Wisconsin…ugh. My trainer rides have been undirected and uninspired, although I’ve gotten some good sweating done depending on the song. And since I did my little 200 yard butterdrown a few weeks ago I haven’t even gotten in the pool again. That’s taking a break from Master’s for financial sake means for my swim training…it just doesn’t happen.
Besides the never-to-be-fixed hip dysplasia and SI nerve pain, my knee continues to be the one thing that has continued to plague me since IM, and I guess I’ll finally haul my ass in this week to get it looked at. But I know the drill…strengthen and ye shall be pain free. Which means get back in the weight room FOR REAL. Not my favorite, but needs to be done. I also need to stop running just on the trails and tracks and get back out on the road, because my joints are feeling it too much when I run on asphalt now…they need to get pounded back into submission - they are too used to feeling good now!
But whatever…I needed the break. It’s done now. I took a month basically off from working out to heal after IM…and another month to just workout as I felt like it with the exception of some specialized run training. I wish my body felt a little better, but it is what it is. The itch is back…it’s time to pick some TRI based goals and make some strides toward them. Master’s, road races, and trainer-based VO2max sets…here I come again…
