Beck’s… April 27, 2009
No not the beer. The singer. You know the song, “I think I’m in love, but it makes me kind of nervous to say so.” Reading my blog over the last year, or even the last month, would make you think I was bipolar (and with my genetics you might be right). Things are great! Things suck. Things couldn’t be better! Things couldn’t be worse.
Truth is, that’s just life. It’s a roller coaster. Extending that metaphor, my training has been on a long downhill since I got sick, but hopefully it’s bottoming out. Meanwhile, spring has sprung, and I am indeed in love, but fairly nervous to say so for fear of retribution from the gods of superstition.
I’m actually in love with a lot of things. My nephew’s miraculous recovery for one. As of today, he sat up and is talking. He’s got a long way to go, but he’s getting there and my heart soars for him, his sister, and his parents.
I’m also in love with my husband (duh) after a great getaway weekend that we SO needed. Red Sox game, MFA exhibit, dinner at Fiore’s in the North End, BEAUTIFUL weather.
I’m in love with coaching, all my new athletes, and my TriROK’ers who are almost to their goal races. Hang in there guys!
I’m in love with my new powertap, even if it tells me terribly hurtful things. At least they are useful things that could conceivable make me better. At least they could if I could string together more than two days of quality training.
I am in love with biking again, even if I am slow as molasses and completely lacking endurance. Funny how days of sun and 80’s can do that for you.
I am in love with my garden, particularly the asperagus and chives it’s already serving up (radishes, lettuce, and early spring peas are soon to follow).
I’m in love with the Red Sox killing the Yankees and me getting to watch, the Big Bad Bruins, and the beginning of the tri season.
I’m in love with flowers, and sun, and warmth, and shorts, despite their insistence on displaying my alarmingly white thighs.
I’m SO in love with all of my friends for helping us through a hard time and for taking care of my kids and me when we needed it.
I’m in love with my friend Donna’s training numbers, focus, and determination…I know how scary IM can be, and how your head can convince you that you can’t do it, but you can…you will.
Honestly, there are some things I’m not in love with. Like still being sick. Like having a race this weekend and knowing that if I do it I better be prepared for a PW. Like bills, and losing my temper, and forgetting everything but my kids names at least once a day. But whatever…there’s an AWFUL lot to love about life right now…
